At first, I was really wondering, “why is it entitled dead stars?”. But, as we dig deeper, I slowly see it clearly. Dead Stars symbolize a dream for something that is nonexistent. The guy fell in love with a girl. She was his dream, his star. He thought he’s in love. But like a dead star which is so far away, and whose shine could be the leftover traveling light from it, he was a long way getting the girl and he realized that he is no longer is attracted to her. The love of the guy for the girl is like a dead star, whose glow is still visible from the earth for years after they are gone.
For me, Dead Stars is realistic. We often experience choosing over something we want and something we are obligated to do. But, we end up with something that we should do because we’re tied to do and choose that. The same goes to Alfredo.
Although I should Alfredo for seeing Julia right when he’s already engaged, I still felt sad and sorry for him. I think he loved Julia genuinely and his feelings for Esperanza before were different. That’s what I picked up from the story.
What really made me feel sorry for Alfredo is the way Julia is when they’re together. It’s like only Alfredo is feeling the fire. Julia even got to congratulate him on his approaching wedding. But, all in all, this story is great.
However, if I got into a situation similar to what Esperanza was in, I would also get hurt. Of course it will be painful for me because I love him, yet, he still found someone else to fill in the love he’s been seeking. I would feel that I am lacking.
Despite the pain, I would still let him go and choose. This will really hurt me as heck but, who am I to hold him down? If I do love him, then I must wish the best for him. If I really love him, then I must want his happiness the most.
And his happiness lies in Julia’s side.
